Catherine van Braganza
Naar aanleiding van mijn bezoek aan Portugal enkele jaren geleden werd ik betoverd door de schoonheid van moeder natuur in de omgeving van Sintra. Al fotograferend werd ik door de magische rotspartijen meegezogen naar een lang oud verleden. Mijn zoektocht begon vanaf die dag om de sfeer van de oude bewoners te herbeleven.
Nadat ik de stamboom bestudeerd had via de Universiteit van Lissabon werd ik als een magneet meegezogen naar het verhaal van Catherine de Braganza. Wat mij betreft een van de meest invloedrijke vrouwen uit de Portugese geschiedenis. Zoals velen van jullie al wisten was zij belangrijk geweest in de ontwikkeling van Engeland.
Catherine, had een belangrijke rol in de modernisering van Engeland en in het veranderen van de levensfilosofie van de Engelsen, hoewel naar mijn mening niet genoeg, word ze vandaag de dag nog steeds bewonderd en geëerd.
De grootste veranderingen aan de Engelse levenswijze die zij heeft gebracht:

Ik ben dan ook overtuigd dat het spreekwoordelijke woord “de appeltjes van Oranje” wel eens een geheel andere lading zouden kunnen krijgen na haar vertrek uit Engeland en de komst van Willem III uit Nederland als nieuwe Koning van Engeland zijnde.
Voor alle duidelijkheid, deze intrigerende Prinses Catherine de Braganza die leefde van 1638 tot 1705 en Koningin van Engeland was van 1662 tot 1685, komen mede nieuwe inzichten naar boven omtrend de beschreven geschiedenis dankzij Professor Mohammed Sharif.
Met het begin van de Glorious Revolution vertrok Catherine terug naar Portugal.
Op 5 november 1688 ging de Prins van Oranje, in het gezelschap van 21.000 soldaten, aan wal in de Zuid-Engelse kustplaats Devon. Hij maakte binnen enkele weken korte metten met het leger van Jacobus en trok op 28 december Londen binnen.
